Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring a support person or friend to my appointment?
You are welcome to bring a support person but depending on the rules of confidentiality, that person may be excluded when taking instructions. Our lawyers will advise you of any circumstance where a support person may or may not be able to be present.
What do I need to bring for my first appointment?
Please bring any correspondence you may have with you from another lawyer or from the Family Court. We will ask you to complete an instruction sheet which asks for your financial situation, including bank account balances, house and mortgage values and any other assets you and/or your partner owns. You can also bring a list of questions or matters you’d like to discuss during your consultation with our lawyers.
What should I expect for my first appointment?
Initial consultations are tailored to individual circumstances and will depend on where you and your partner are at in the separation process. If you’re in the early stages, the appointment may see our lawyers provide advice on housing, finances, arrangements for children, and any other immediate difficulties you may be facing. We can also assist with exploring options for settlement and with communication between parties.
Do you offer virtual meetings?
We are pleased to offer private consultations via telephone, Skype or Zoom meeting. Simply contact one of our offices to organise a virtual consultation with one of our family lawyers.
Where are you located?
If you’re located in the Armadale area, our lawyers can assist you from our Cockburn Central Office located on Beeliar Drive. Alternatively, we also have offices in Fremantle and Rockingham.
